First mistake, coming here in July. We wanted to hike/walk the railroad tunnels but they are closed due to the heat. We then went down to the water with the intent to swim. The Ranger that takes your money mentioned that it was rocky and suggested water shoes, what she didn't mention was the 6-8 inches of silt/mud that one has to wade through to be able to swim. My husband, kids and brother lasted about 10 minutes in the water then we scrubbed off and left. There were other people swimming so maybe we just picked the absolute worst spot on the awful rocky beach! I will never go back unless I'm on a boat. And I'm so glad that we have a National Park annual pass- $20 was crazy for how nasty it was.
