  • Let me start by saying, this store has just about everything! Their in-stock selection is about the best I have ever seen. Customer service was good while I was there. Jim was able to help me and answer all my questions in regards to the arachnids. He took his time and showed me several species and explained some of the differences between them. He was friendly and helpful. I was disappointed when he pulled out a "multi" cage which could house about 8-10 spiders (not all were occupied) only to find one was dead and full of maggots. The maggots were mostly contained in the one cell but had just started to migrate to the next enclosure which was occupied by a little baby Mexican red knee. I chose a baby Mexican Red Knee from within this cage but not the one where the maggots were. The one I chose appeared healthy and young (size of a quarter). I purchased her for $100 plus I spent another $150 in accessories. I immediately took her back to my hotel room and partially covered her little plastic container to keep her out of any draft from the AC. By the next am, she had already finished her molt and was still lying on her back. Within an hour she was back on her feet and resting. By noon she didn't look right so I checked on her. She was dead. I had her less than 24 hours. The next morning I returned her to Exotic Pets hoping they would work with me. I spoke to Jim again and he simply said they don't guarantee arachnids and there was nothing he could do for me. I was disappointed that he wouldn't work with me considering I bought her less than 24 hours prior to her dying. I would have been happy with a replacement spider or even a discounted replacement. Unfortunately, I'm headed back to LA without a new Tarantula. I'm not going to say anything negative. Jim was helpful, professional, and courteous. Unfortunately for me, he didn't want to budge on their no guarantee policy and I understand, albeit disappointing that I spent a $100 and left empty handed. Policies are in place for a reason, but there are exceptions to most policies. She died in under 24 hours and came from an enclosure in which there was a dead spider covered in maggots. I'm not saying that contributed to anything, but we could have negotiated a favorable outcome for both sides. Because of that I can't give more than 2 stars.
