Let me start by saying that I am an old time customer of Tiffany's. My $20k+ engagement ring is from there as well as my $10k infinity wedding band and many, many other miscellaneous jewelry pieces. I had received a little Tiffany key as a gift from a client and I decided to take it there and ask them if it is real, and if so to polish it. I was with my mother, mother in law and sister in law. The associate said she can't comment on authenticity but she'll clean it. I was talking with my family whether I should even leave it for cleaning when security came and told us 'I think you are doing a transaction here so come on take it outside the store.' He then started escorting us. I told them these are my parents and sister in law and then he seemed confused.
What happened was that the associate I was speaking with ( speaking is an overstatement since English was not part of her vocab and she was very bored and rude) called security on us because she thought I was buying second hand Tiffany items from the other people I was with! I have ever been more humiliated in my life.
I subsequently called the director of the store who mumbled an apology for the misunderstanding and said he will discuss it with his staff.
Please avoid this location at all costs. The bloor street location has more civilized staff. At Yorkdale all are East Asian, suburban staff that will treat you like garbage if you are not Asian as well ( we are Caucasian). They attend strictly to Asian clients, I had a similarly poor experience at the Cartier in Yorkdale but wonderful experiences downtown. I am thinking of getting a diamonds by the yard necklace which is what I was going to be looking had I not been invited outside he store, but I will go downtown for that. I'm sure it's no loss for them since it's probably pennies compared to the Hong Konger game. Really disappointed.
