I went to see Dr Shapiro in Jan of 2016. My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant on our own for a year at that point (keep in mind we had a 4 year old at the time and we had no problem conceiving him). In our consultation he told us we would need to do IVF but before we did that we needed to do about $10,000 in testing just to find out what was wrong and our insurance wouldn't cover a dime. Then we were expected to pay for the IVF which we all know isn't cheap.
So after asking around I ended up going to s St. George UT in June 2016. The doctor I saw was willing to look at other options instead of just going straight to IVF. We ended up doing three rounds of insemination and got pregnant the third time in October 2016 (just a few months after our first visit). Our baby girl was born in July of 2017. We paid a tiny fraction of what it would have cost to go to Shapiro and didn't even have to do the 10,000 dollars worth of testing.
Some women need to do IVF I get that but Shapiro was not wanting to look into other options for us. (St. George also does IVF for way cheaper too). We felt it was all about the money for him and his office.
On top of everything our insurance covers the first consultation but because it was the first of the year Shapiros office said they couldn't bill insurance right away so they charged me $100 and said they would reimburse after they bill insurance and receive the money. Well they never billed and trying to retrieve that $100 was like pulling teeth and a waste of time that I didn't have so I dropped it. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM OR HIS OFFICE TO ANYONE TRYING TO GET PREGNANT. We were desperate as I'm sure you are too, but don't settle! There are better doctors and more affordable routes!
