  • While this office probably saved my dog's eye (for which I am eternally grateful), I feel like I was taken to the cleaners. My dog's surgery was $3,500.00. Compare this to the following: -My human friend had an invasive biopsy surgery which cost $2,500.00 (total) -My friend's dog had a gall bladder tumor removed and it cost $1,100.00 (since there is competition to keep down the prices) There is no question that this establishment takes full advantage of the fact that there is no other specialty around and anyone who is a responsible pet owner is over a barrel. Of course, the surgery isn't enough - they (in my opinion, erroneously) diagnosed a chronic dry eye condition, which would require me to return for the remaining 15 years of my pet's life; appointments running around $250 plus $30-$40 per month for eye drops (because you can't prescribe just one - you must change it around so the patient cannot say, "No thank you, I still have some of those and my dog is fine and by the way, I can buy GenTeal over the counter at Walmart for half the price that you are trying to charge me!!"). The doctor and her staff are very kind and have excellent bedside manner. There is one receptionist who is an ice queen but overall, I liked the staff. Just pray that you never have to come here. Honestly, I've loved dogs my entire 32 years on this planet but after being taken advantage of by veterinarians (mostly this one), I will never have another dog after mine passes. I cannot risk the possibility of this happening again. The thing is, when you keep the cost of responsible pet ownership so high, you keep a lot of animals from receiving proper care, or you sentence to the poor farm those who are willing to sacrifice their own needs for those of their animal(s). It saddens me so much. :-( ***I fully understand that as a pet owner, you take on the risks of these kinds of unlikely problems and it is your responsibility, as a guardian, to see that they receive help and that is why I allowed myself to be exploited for my dog's surgery. My point is that it isn't ethical to take advantage of people just because there is no competition, especially when the health of an animal is involved. These kinds of prices keep a lot of people from properly caring for their animals. When I tell people what I paid, they tell me I am crazy and they'd never do that for their dog.***
