I've been lucky enough to live in in Vancouver and shop at Granville Island as well the Ferry Building Farmer's Market in San Francisco, and I find that people's comparisons of both to St. Lawrence a bit unfair because they are all great for different reasons.
St. Lawrence is amazing because of the space and the history it carries. Admittedly, the vegetable selection leaves a bit to be desired in my opinion, I can tell you that it was amazing to be able to see whole sides of Alberta beef hanging in the meat lockers getting butchered in front of me.
That said, being in the throes of a stomach flu while coming to this place is a foodie's worst nightmare. Smelling the wafting scent of pea bacon frying up on the grill, seeing fresh clam chowder and fried fish chunks being consumed by the pound and being offered sample upon sample was all enough to make a queasy stomach want to hurl, but I can guarantee that I will be coming back to this little slice of gastronomical heaven time and time again.
