Growing up in Richmond Hill, I can recall as every new and exciting element was added over the years. Although by today's standards Silver City is now considered "run of the mill" I know at the time it opened it's mulit-stadium seated style theatres, it was "the shit!"
And with their foodcourt-esque food options to enhance your theatre experience (Taco Bell at the movies - heck yes!) and a full arcade, it's not hard to see why this location has been the Friday night Highschool hangout spot since I was rocking a retainer and t-zone acne (so sexy I was).
Originally owned and opened by Famous Players Cinemas, the venue has seen some changes since Cineplex bought out the chain to become the main player in Canadian movie viewing. Some of those upgrades include, revamped food options, the addition of Coca cola freestyle machines inside the lobby (100+ flavours), and the introduction of UltraAVX cinemas (which allow you to pre-buy your specific seat - a much more comfortable seat I must add).
Despite the changes and upgrade post Cineplex buyout, it's hard to drum up the same level of excitement as I once did about this place, because after all - it's just a night out at the movies. And it's gonna be expensive! SilverCity is the standard these days so 3 stars is a fair grade to award it.
