Overrated, expensive, dull and slow is what comes to mind when I think of this restaurant. A group of my friends visited Ocean Club tonight (a Sunday evening in early October at 6pm) for a friend's birthday. I was very disappointed with the quality and flavor of the food and the service, which I would rate as terrible, especially for a fine dining establishment such as this.
When you arrive it's clear that you're at a fine dining restaurant. Dark rooms, fancy table settings, a well dressed wait staff. It's too bad that our experience didn't match the ambiance. In general everything just fell short--- beyond what you might expect at your typical over priced, stuffy steak house.
I ordered the Scottish salmon blackened. It was cooked correctly (rare) but lacked in flavor. The presentation was terrible- a filet on a white plate and a small cup of what resembled an olive tappenade. I would have asked our waiter but he was largely absent with the exception of when he walked us through the menu upon arrival which largely just confused the group. My husband ordered a salad and two types of oysters. He requested that they both be served as a main course. The salad arrived as an appetizer. When the oysters arrived no one pointed out which oysters were which- they left him guessing. We ordered wine and had wanted a second bottle. We eventually were able to order it but well after our entrees had arrived.
In general we wanted to have a relaxed dinner but service was so slow that there were points when I questioned if the staff even remembered that we were in the dining room. We also had interesting interactions with our busser. She first came to remove the bread from the table. She asked us if we were done, to which my husband said "you know what, just leave it and we'll pick at it throughout the meal." She smiled at him, looked at the table and took the bread. It was clear she didn't understand him. She mumbled for the rest of the evening and in general was incomprehensible. I was really surprised.
All is all this place was disappointing. There's lots of competition for high end dining and perhaps I'm a snob but if you can't get the small stuff right then it's not worth the cost especially when the food is just mediocre.
