I really tried to give this place a chance several times because I am of Cuban heritage and grew up to enjoy Cuban food. Each time I went with my mother who speaks fluent Spanish was great, but when I have gone by myself it was a whole different experience since I do not speak Spanish.
The first time, the service was so bad. The hostess had an attitude with us and told us we had half an hour to eat. Our waitress came to our table only twice. We ended up having to speak with a manager and she gave us a $15 voucher for the next time we came in.
So the next AND LAST time we came in we tried making a reservation for 8:30 and the man who picked up the phone kept telling us that they closed at 9. I told him we understood that but we were driving 2 and a half hours to eat at that particular restaurant. He then told us basically that by the time we got there we could not eat within 20 minutes. We got there anyway at 8:30 and were able to finish our meals by 9 no problem. Pretty sure the same man served our table.
We ordered the croquette and empanada platter. When it finally came out we received 5 empanadas and no croquettes. We were only informed then that there were no croquettes and we got 1 extra empanada. This did not seem fair because we were still charged the $9 for an uneven number of empanadas when there were two of us and we were supposed to get a total of 4 empanada and 4 croquettes. He then asked us how many empanada we would rather have and if he should take the extra one away. He almost grabbed the 5th empanada with his hand.
Our next peeve was that we specifically asked for the salted plantains instead of the sweet ones as our side and we got the sweet ones instead. He then told us that since we said plantain instead of tostone, we got the sweet ones. Right after that I saw him go up to another coworker with an attitude and point at our table.
Overall we will not be returning again and will take our business somewhere else. Being open until 9 does not mean you stop serving half an hour before and that you have a limited time to eat. I have worked in the restaurant business and if you cannot wait for customers to finish eating after the time you close then you should not be working there. Being tipped is based on the quality of service that is deserved. It's very poor management and extremely rude. It is such a shame.
