I'm pretty sure that Chopper John's is one of my favorite bars in town. It's unpretentious, there are $1 bills taped to all the walls and the ceiling, and the music video playing above the bar was frozen on a thong-clad buttock for about 10 minutes before anyone noticed. Drinks are cheap (five of us had drinks and a delicious meat-sauce-and-patty simple cheeseburger for about $35), the bar was quiet (you can actually hear each other talk!), and the locals and bartenders were chill and friendly. It feels like a bar that belongs in a small town in rural Washington State, and that's a compliment. There's a pool table and other standard dive bar essentials, and there are microphones that our bartender clarified are NOT for karaoke (apparently they have a lot of live music and once tried to have a karaoke night but decided against doing that ever again). Also our bartender knew how to make a killer salty dog.
Totally will be back.
