Every proper neighborhood should have one thing: A gathering place to scarf frozen dairy scoops. Lyndhurst has one of the finest institutions in the area called East Coast Frozen Custard.
Frozen custard is similar to ice cream, but made with eggs and butter fat in addition to cream and sugar. In short, custard is more concentrated with a thick, creamy texture and a smoother, softer consistency than traditional ice cream.
Because each custard is prepared fresh and to order, there are usually only 3 flavors available: vanilla, chocolate and the "flavor of the day" which can be conveniently tracked by a calendar of flavors available at the store or online.
If I ever move from Lyndhurst, this will be one of the things I miss most.
