Last week while visiting Pittsburgh, I went with some beer-drinking buddies to Piper's at my native Pittsburgh boss' suggestion. While I didn't love my food, the server was a doll, the booths and overall environs comfy and warm, and the beer selection and pours predictably perfect.
I ordered a banger bap, bap being a kind of soft gooey airy roll upon which almost all their sandwiches are served. I got the cottage cheese (veritably yummy, I declare!) and the slaw (good!) but the banger patty was extra salty and tasted almost exactly like a Sausage McMuffin patty. As other reviewers have said, I'm not sure whiy this pub is such a standard. Everyone else loved their food, and I wish I had ordered something else. Because I'm rating this not on what it is reputed to be, but what I experienced - a solid four-star experience and a perfect place to get started on Carson Street.
