  • I have had several different experiences here. Some have been better than others. In general, I have been very underwhelmed by the quality of the overnight and weekend emergency vets and the care they have provided. That said, there are not a lot of good options for overnight and weekend emergency care in Cleveland. At the same time, I have generally been impressed with specialists including the Critical Care doctor who cared for a senior golden that was diagnosed with a simple GI upset by overnight vet but who I euthanized after a less than 72 hour free fall that ended with his blood not clotting and a likely diagnosis of pancreatic cancer (which was later confirmed). I thought that bill was outrageous, and, adding insult to injury, they charged me to euthanize my dog which I have never had a vet do at the end of an expensive hospital stay that ended sadly. (My previous experiences were with 24/7 vet hospitals that provided general and specialty care in SF and DC.) I swore VCA off after that experience and still wish there was a better local overnight facility. All of that said, I have been super impressed over the past year with the knowledge, compassion, and care of VCA's oncologist - Dr. Elpiner. I recommend her highly and trust her judgment to make the right call for my latest senior golden dealing with cancer. She is also very good at communicating results and action plans to me and other specialists involved in my dog's care. I guess I am a reluctant client overall but a huge fan of Dr. Elpiner.
