| - Tried Wildfish for the first time tonight, enticed by the Arizona Restaurant Week special. We did the 3 course "special" plus an appetizer and were stuffed. The restaurant was pretty, although we felt there was a bit of a disconnect between the look/feel they were going for and the space... Waiters were wearing white tuxedo coats and all other staff were dressed very nice, and everything was quite pricy $$$, but there were T.V.s on around the bar area (in middle, in view of entire restaurant) that had football on.
Appetizer: Had the lobster tacos and they were ok, not great, especially for $19. (This was not apart of the Restaurant Week special for $44 a person.)
1st course: We each had the lobster/crab bisque which was very good and rich, big bowls too which I was not expecting in this deal. Really enjoyed this.
Main: I had the Chilean Sea Bass ($10 up-charge) and my bf had the Roasted Chicken Breasts with scallion potatoes. I really enjoyed the Sea Bass, it was cooked perfectly although it was slightly too salty in my opinion, and the sautéed spinach. The roasted chicken was fine, not great, but we noticed that the dish only came with chicken and mushrooms even though on the menu it said the dish came with potatoes. When we finally got the waiters attention (several minutes later) he said that the dish did not come with potatoes, but he would go double check...he came back and told us that it was not supposed to come with potatoes with this deal, that the menu was wrong, but the chef was making some mashed potatoes special. The manager brought them over shortly and he was very nice, the mashed potatoes were really good. We also had a "small side" of truffled mac and cheese ($8), I love mac and cheese and truffles and this was good but again not great.
Dessert: My bf had the chocolate mouse with fruit, it was rich, delicious, and we ate all of it! I had the bananas foster butter cake...a small butter cake with bananas and sauce on top which was topped with a sauce and lit at the table! Served with fresh whipped cream and a scoop of pecan ice cream. Overall dessert was super yummy, only note would be that the topping on the cake was a little chewy.
Overall...it was fun to try a new place, tasty but not great. After the conversation with our waiter about the mashed potatoes, he kind of disappeared. We also overheard a manager (didn't appear to be the main manager, Eric, but maybe the bar manager?) say to waitstaff "breakin necks and cashin checks" ...not sure what that was about but it didn't seem very professional. We probably won't be back, as there are far too many good restaurants in AZ to go back to a mediocre one that was so highly priced.
