We recently delivered our son at Magee. This was out first time at this hospital and we were impressed with the whole experience.
Every nurse we encountered was super nice and knowledgeable. The majority of our nurses were young but they did their jobs efficiently and I had no complaints. We did find that we had a better rapport with the older nurses only because it seemed like these women were more comfortable providing us with information without promoting. I was fortunate to have a nurse the first evening work with me to ensure my son had a proper latch. Establishing the fundamentals made the rest of my breastfeeding experience that much easier.
Upon discharge, our nurse was awesome. She stocked us up and even gave us some newborn diapers to take home since our son was too small for size 1.
The meals provided to patients were more than generous. My husband and I shared the breakfast option both mornings. I don't know how any one person can eat one entree, four sides, one dessert, and two drinks at every meal. We liked how easy it was for my husband to order his own tray for $8 if he wanted. They also offered a large pizza for $11.
The postpartum room we were in was recently renovated. I guess the biggest change was the addition of the futon for significant others. My husband seemed to find it comfortable enough. Our only complaint was how hot the room was. When we asked the nurse, she said the whole hospital was warm because of the unusually warm February weekend.
Overall we had a great experience with UPMC.
