| - I recently moved to Las Vegas with my 16 year old cat and 9-year-old black lab mix. Centennial Hills Animal Hospital is near where I am temporarily living, so I decided to try them out, despite a warning from another family member. My cat's medical records are a mile high due to her hypertension, enlarged heart and thyroid issues. I have had her on meds for over a year now, and she is not getting better. Centennial Hills saw her 6 weeks ago for an initial exam (free coupon for new customers), refilled her prescription, and let us know in October we would have to do another blood test, among other tests, and talk further about alternative treatments. I mentioned, at that time, that I don't have the money to continue to keep this cat alive, so I would most likely be interested in putting her down. Her quality of life has diminished over the 6 weeks. I made an appointment to put her down yesterday, and asked how much it would cost. The receptionist told me $119. Today when I brought her in, and wanted to pay for the appointment ahead of time, the price was $157. They said the doctor ordered a mandatory consultation for $41. I hadn't brought extra cash, and my next stop was the bank, so I couldn't even go ahead with the appointment. This is the second cat that I have had to put down this year. I didn't pay for a consultation for my other cat. It was a quick conversation with the doctor just before the appointment- no charge. Clearly the cat is very sick. She has had a good life, but she is 16 years old. I mean, what is the point of another consultation. I felt they were interested in overcharging me, and I felt taken advantage of. Also, when my cat's prescription was refilled last time, they never asked if I wanted the generic version, which is a lot less expensive (by $35), and would have been listed as so in her records from my previous vet. I found a vet that is only going to charge me $97 out the door, so I have one more night to spend with my cat, and all is well. The staff was nice and apologetic. I appreciate that. I asked them to fax all my pet's records to my new vet, as I need to get my 9-year-old black lab mix in soon.
