For Hurricane Irma refugees, Pittsburgh is an ideal refuge and Vallozzis is the place to eat. People turn up their noses and make a funny face when you say the word "Pittsburgh", and even our cab driver laughed out loud when we asked for a ride to the cultural district. But nestled in the heart of downtown is one the best Italian restaurants I have EVER been to... The place is absolutely gorgeous!!! It looks like Chef Ramsay put it together as it is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. One entire wall is an Italian countryside scene while another is adorned with massive clouds but its the wooden tables and bar that truly stand out... But, of course, it was the food that compelled me to make a next night reservation on the way out the door. The pizza carne appetizer (bathed in arugula) had the most unusual flavor I have ever tasted in an Italian restaurant! Its flavor profile was a garlic-ham hybrid that was a true culinary masterpiece... I was full when my gnocchi and sausage arrived but I surreptiously licked the bowl clean when nobody was looking! It tasted like a pizzaiola I ate canalside in Venice, a few years back; YES, it was THAT good!!! There must be a plethora of fine dining establishments in Pittsburgh if this place only gets three and a half yelp stars! We may be here awhile and Vallozzis will be my go to spot for the duration! Va bene!!!
