Being a chemist and having some experience using nitrogen to make ice cream as a volunteer, I just had to make a stop at this place.
I tried their chocolate brownie and their whiskey chocolate. The flavours need a little work and the texture needs help. The main issue with liquid nitrogen ice cream is that the nitrogen needs to be added a little slower for a smoother texture. Unfortunately they had a long line-up and poured the nitrogen all at once causing uneven freezing with some areas of just rock solid chunks and some of the melted ice cream. They could have also used the syringe with chocolate fudge to a greater symbiosis of flavours and instead I was left a little disappointed with how it didn't really fit with the ice cream.
The price is a little higher compared to other ice cream shops, due to the novelty. They also have the 'frozen breath' Cheetos for a reduced price if you buy ice cream, but it's still a cup of Cheetos in liquid nitrogen. They managed to explain to one or two people how to eat them, but I ended up having to let a family know how to eat it. This could definitely use a sign as you do not want the burns that come from a -196°C liquid touching your skin too long.
The decor is nice. The menus are easy to read. There are no seats outside and it can get a bit busy. The tables are unfortunately not cleaned quick enough as there is such a fast turnover rate.
I would recommend this place if you're here for the novelty, but the recipes could use a little work. I really do hope they try to formulate new and better flavours and techniques to improve the ice cream quality, because I love the idea of having a store similar to Mister Ice cream (in Vancouver) right here in the GTA.
