| - Great location, nice decor, varied selection, friendly and swift service, questionable value.
While in Phoenix for business, I stopped in to Citizen Public House on behalf of the overwhelming number of great reviews. I enjoyed my food and drink, I really liked the location and the decor, the service was great, but I walked away with a sour taste on behalf of the value component. Few things put me off more than the feeling of being ripped off, no matter how good I think the end product was. The end doesn't always justify the means. And I know...it's Scottsdale, but I'm from Brooklyn. I'm no stranger to expensive food. I still know what my money should look like on the plate.
I ordered the filet asada tacos, and I just wasn't down with the $16 they ran me. The 3 tacos were small, not particularly full, and came with a half a roasted corn cob. Everything tasted good, but at the end of the day that's basically $5 for a taco. Maybe a little more. And they weren't even very substantial. I feel pretty strongly that either a couple dollars should come off that price tag or another taco needs to be thrown on the plate.
I was still hungry so I ordered the flatbread/hummus app to tide me over. All in all, it's a nice spot but I wouldn't be back.
