  • Totally nice way to kick off your weekend. I love going to Farmers Markets on Saturdays, and the Phoenix Public Market is a vibrant place to go for fresh food and entertainment, and of course, to be a part of the local community. :) I went this past Saturday around 10 am, and the crowd and parking was not a problem. I was welcomed by the notes of a street violinist. I wandered in to watch a cooking demo on a Thai dish by the folks from Welcome Diner. The chef passionately talked about carrots and beets caramelizing, and having their natural sugars infuse dishes. I had to walk away so people would not see me salivating, but trust me, I will be a patron at their restaurant soon just to try out their flavors. Truthfully, I came in hunting for cheap, fresh produce. From a price perspective, produce can definitely be cheaper at your local grocery store. I ended up buying many of my items from the Community Exchange Table. A large bag of oranges was $2,and would cost $4 at Fry's with half the qty. I also bought a large bag of grapefruit for $2 as well. After some more wandering I snagged a basil plant for $3 and kale for $2 a bunch. Other items (compared to your local grocery store) come at a higher premium, so if you're cost conscious just be sure to compare. I passed on perfectly green peppers, farm eggs, and onions, but the choice is yours. I'll definitely be back to support the local vendors, keep growing good food, and Phoenix will eat it!
