I wrote this review earlier and was just disappointed to find out that Du-Par's has closed! So, I guess this can serve as a memoir:
One word: pancakes. I put my trust in the previous Yelp reviews and all signs pointed towards pancakes. I wasn't disappointed one bit. Du-Par's is an old school diner and definitely a hidden gem in Downtown Las Vegas. They're located in the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino and it seems like they're always packed-good thing they're open 24/7 and they serve breakfast during all hours.
The line was long when we got there but the line moved quickly and the wait wasn't long at all. We were given the option to sit at the counter or wait a little longer for a table and opted to get seated right away at the counter, which was a whirlwind of an experience. The kitchen definitely knows how to pump out those pancakes! The wait staff stayed busy behind the counter toasting and slicing bread, scooping out shrimp and cocktail sauce and getting fresh plates to serve their tables.
I defaulted to the pancakes and also couldn't resist ordering shrimp cocktail as it was recommended in so many Yelp reviews. They also had many fresh pies available for desert and they were displayed behind the counter, unusually close to the ceiling and they looked delicious. I couldn't resist ordering a chocolate covered donut for my dessert and was glad I did. Their donuts are huge-almost the size of a saucer and it was soft and fluffy but not drenched in lard either.
The customer service was great and the wait for the food wasn't long at all. The pancakes definitely didn't let me down!
