  • I've been meaning to write this review for quite some time... First of all, how did I not know about this place before?! I've done lots of searching online over the years for tanning salons in the area, but for some reason Planet Beach has never come up, despite the fact they've been around for at least 6 years. Maybe (hopefully) it is easier to find online now. Also, it's not in a very noticeable location, so even though it's in close proximity to where I am, I'd never seen it while driving by. So heads up, it's in the same parking lot as Sears, Chuck E. Cheese's, Majerle's Sports Bar, etc., and looks almost like a business complex. The lettering on their outer sign is bright orange. :) I learned of Planet Beach when the manager, Michelle, reached out to me through Yelp. She'd seen one of my reviews for another tanning salon in the area where I'd had a few negative experiences. She invited me to give Planet Beach a try, and I gratefully took her up on it. I was under the impression it was just a tanning salon, so I was blown away by all the other spa services that were offered there, as well. Michelle was super sweet and friendly, and set aside time to meet with me and explain all they had to offer. She had even arranged for me to try three of the spa services that same day, if time allowed. Michelle explained that they offer monthly memberships to give their regular clients the best value possible, but membership is not required, nor is purchasing a package. You can purchase individual sessions, just the same as most other tanning salons. At no point did I feel pressured or uncomfortable. I appreciated that Michelle took the time to fill me in on all they had to offer. Over the course of the following week, I was able to try out many of the available spa treatments... Tanning was my main interest, so I sampled both the regular and stand up (on different days, obviously). They were both awesome, nice and strong with lights all around. The regular bed had a UV-free section above where your face goes. I saw immediate results. They also offer a high-pressure bed that's more powerful, which I did not try, as well as spray tanning. One of my favorite spa experiences was the Hydro-Derma Fusion, essentially a steam treatment. You can choose which type of solution to have mixed in, although I don't remember what the four choices were. What I do know is that my skin felt so soft and moisturized afterwards, it was wonderful. I will say that it gets very, very hot, so be forewarned. But it only lasts 20 minutes so it's not unbearable. A friend of mine cautioned me not to lift my legs while in the steam bed because she'd burned herself where the steam came out of the top...so people, please be careful. I also did try the Red Light Therapy bed, which is supposed to have a healing effect on various skin issues. Apparently it has been proven that the infrared waves are harmless, I'll let you look into that for yourselves, I'm certainly no expert. Although the bed was warm and relaxing, I personally became super itchy for hours after each of my red light sessions (even after showering), so I most likely won't be doing that again. Word to the wise...I'd been told that doing the Hydro-Derma Fusion prior to UV Treatment would help accelerate my tan, but doing so gave me a mottled pattern on my legs that was permanently tanned onto my skin. It was strange. Never had that happen before so am assuming it was due to the intense heat of the steam bed bringing the blood to the surface (as I was told would happen). So I would probably allow some time between the steam bed and tanning, if I were you. Anyway, Planet Beach offers many more beautifying treatments and services in addition to the ones I mentioned here, so I would highly recommend checking them out. All the girls working there were super friendly and helpful. I had a great no-pressure experience, and even though I didn't opt to sign up for a membership, this place will be my go-to tanning salon from now on. Thanks Michelle! :)
