| - Recently, I went to the Ed Mirvish Theatre to see 'The Bodyguard' with a friend of mine. While I do not have much theatre experience to compare with, I must say that both the play and the theatre were great. We were well-placed, sitting pretty near to the centre of the orchestra section just below the edge of the main balcony. But from looking around, it doesn't seem that there would be a bad seat anywhere on the main level. The seats were very comfortable and fairly spacious. The acoustics are great, a little loud at times but not too much so; I suppose that first loud shot in the play was meant to startle everyone.
The theatre itself is quite magnificent, pretty much what I would expect from an older theatre. (I understand that its current interior is a faithful restoration of the original 1920's Pantages Theatre.) I said to my friend that I could imagine the Queen sitting in one of the balconies along the side, or perhaps one of those murders that happens in the theatre balcony in old b+w movies. The lobby, the décor, everything is very elegant, making for a nice formal night out. The snack bar served show-themed drinks and ice cream, as well the usual fare. Apparently the washrooms are very small compared to the number of people lined-up at intermission, but I guess that's the only real downside that I can mention. Otherwise, an excellent place to see live theatre in Toronto.
