| - I had a pretty good meal here. To start, I ordered the warm lobster and fennel "salad." I put salad in quotes because it was more of a little appetizer than a salad. A good portion of lobster, some fennel, and a rich buttery sauce made for a good start to my dinner. The only catch is one small piece of my lobster tasted very ammonia like, so the freshness may have been a little questionable. It's never a good thing to get that waft of ammonia from eating seafood. For my entree, I ordered the duck with polenta and fried mushrooms. I have to say, this was a pretty excellent dish. The duck was cooked well, the polenta was creamy, the sauce was tasty, and the fried mushrooms were outstanding. They were crispy and chewy and added great texture and flavor to the dish. For dessert, we had the donuts and the chocolate truffles on the table. The donuts were good but a little dense and even with the sauce and the nuts I thought they still needed a little something. The truffles had incredibly strong chocolate flavor, topped with just a bit of flaky sea salt. Delicious, but not for the faint of heart. Overall, it's a bit pricey even for one of the few higher end restaurants in the area but the food is solid and the atmosphere is nice. I think it could be a 4 star meal if I didn't have that one bite of lobster that tasted like ammonia and if the desserts were a tiny bit better. However, I enjoyed Bacaro and would return for a special occasion dinner.
