| - Mallorca is my favorite restaurant. The main reason is the service. It is superior in every way - from the maƮtre d' to the busboys & unmatched anywhere. One gets the feeling they truly care about your dining pleasure. Our table of four arrived at our reservation time of 5:45 on the first night snow had fallen this winter. Thank goodness for the valet parking on this night. Our table was ready, and our snowy wet coats were taken and hung for us in front by the bar. Our pitcher of red sangria hit the spot as we listened to the list of specials and examined the menu. We started with an appetizer of Calamari Frito. It was a large portion, not greasy but a little chewy. The dipping sauce was light & pleasantly spicy. Dinner started w their usual salad dressed w the restaurant's thousand-island-like dressing. Prior to the main courses arrive, the table is cleared & all silverware is replaced with a clean set.
I had the Mariscada with garlic sauce. The pot full of shellfish - langoustine, a couple sea scallops, mussels, shrimp & clams - calls for more of the warm sourdough bread to dip in the garlicky broth & is a steal at $27.95. My sister ordered one of the specials- beef Wellington. It was a beautiful cut & the meat fork tender & flavorful inside the flaky crust. My one daughter ordered the crab- stuffed trout, Trucha Rellena, which arrived as an unexpectedly large portion of 2 trout. My other daughter was pleased with her order of large shrimp in a white sauce, Camerone Costa del Sol. The meals all come with family- style platters of rice&peas, steamed vegetable platter of cauliflower, broccoli, carrots & snow peas, and a small platter of homemade potato chips.
Throughout the meal the waitstaff was so attentive we felt as if we were the only customers in the restaurant. Dinner ends with a complementary half shot of almond flavored liqueur.
As usual, this was a wonderful dining experience and put us right in the mood for the Manheim Steamroller concert at the Benedum! It is not to be missed.
