As a recent transplant from the east coast, perhaps I am little spoiled. Winco is no Wegmans or for that matter Harris Teeter.
The atmosphere is equivalent to Walmart or any of the other big box retailers -- nothing here for people who enjoy cooking, except low prices. First thing you'll notice is the store does not even subscribe to a satellite music service - suppose this is viewed as an unnecessary expenditure.
Weed your way through some of the cheaper brands Winco carries and you'll discover significant savings over Fry's for example.
The produce department is depressing. Shouldn't the produce department be the pinnacle of a grocery store's presentation? I will stick with Sprouts.
The meat and seafood department. Yes they sell both and I'll leave it at that.
Bakery -- the breads are disappointing. Does anyone in Phoenix make a good loaf of bread? Probably better off without the glycemic load , but darn it, sometimes I just want a nice loaf of baked goodness.
Staff here is about what you expect for a low end grocery store - not rude, just indifferent.
Beer prices seem to be good, although very limited selection.
