| - 1979 - Gas was 89 cents a gallon, My Sharona was top of the charts, and my Jeep CJ-5 had an MSRP of $5,588.
2017 - I embarked on a project to modify my 1979 Jeep CJ-5 with an air-operated rear locking differential, new clutch, and an upgrade to a T-18, 4-speed transmission. I sourced (scrounged) parts from various vendors for this project and Debbie, the Sales Manager, leveraging her experience and skill of her team (special thanks to Travis), produced a rock solid result. She worked with my vendors, helped arrange shipping, and facilitated engagement between her technicians and the transmission rebuilder.
The job entailed meticulously going through the entire drivetrain, identifying any worn parts, and making good well-reasoned recommendations on how to proceed, fabrication of some parts, sourcing adapters, crafting custom made drive shafts, making sure it all worked together flawlessly.
Like any major upgrade, this project took on a life of its own and I can't emphasize the skill level required to do this job properly, the first time. Many shops will claim expertise but how many can back it up and do so by signing their work as AZ Driveshaft and Differential does by putting their emblem on the drive shafts they crafted?
AZ Driveshaft and Differential was there the entire way of this project, providing timely updates and cost estimates.
This Jeep is almost 40 years old when 8-tracks were popular. The drivetrain now reborn, I'm sure will last as long as that into the future with proper care and maintenance.
Now, where's that 89 cent a gallon gas?
Thanks guys!
