I really, really like Eldorado. I love the physical space and the warm, cozy ambiance. I have been here several times, most often for brunch. The brunch menu has a Southwest feel but you can still get all your classic favorites. The smoked salmon Benedict is my favorite. On one occasion my poached eggs came out with hard yolks. I'm someone who doesn't like to complain but I was disappointed enough to mention it to our server. He was back with 2 freshly poached eggs for me minutes later. On my most recent visit I had the Eldorado eggs. I love that they are served on blue corn cakes but I still thought the dish lacked some kind of wow factor. The dinner menu is also diverse and does have some tasty selections. But for me the thing Eldorado does best is their classic margarita. They use fresh lime and no neon green syrup. It's not too sweet and is one of the freshest tasting margaritas you can find in Madison. Which also leads to the next point, which is that this is a great happy hour spot. Cozy up at the bar with a marg, chips and salsa and you'll be a happy camper!
Service is hit or miss, which is the main reason I'm giving 4 stars. The last time I was here we hardly saw our server and she seemed very disinterested and disconnected. She never refilled our coffee (we had to ask for more when she dropped off our check very prematurely) and we sat with our empty plates in front of us for a full 15 minutes. The host walked by and saw our plates and scooped them up, which was very kind of him!
Assuming your server is having a good day and you start with a margarita, you'll be happy with Eldorado!
