  • Back in February my husband called Anthem to specifically ask who to use for his COPD supplies. He was told Apria was in network and to use them. Then Anthem decided Apria wasn't in network and denied the claims. Fortunately for us they had put in the "notes" that they told him Apria was in network. That's when the fun started. We paid the Apria bills then realized Anthem considered them out of network and Anthem did not pay anything. In July we started calling Anthem, to find out why they were considering Apria out of network when they told us they were in network in February, always getting someone different, but to their credit, they did document all conversations in the "notes". Of course we always got a different answer from everyone. One rep told us we were owed over $800, and two different checks were being sent. They never arrived. Back on the phone. Another rep said Apria had been paid and WE had to get Apria to pay us. Really--for Anthem's mistake we now had to chase down Aprina--I think not. It's now October and we are no closer to receiving the money owed. We are now dealing with a supervisor, who says she will call back, but of course doesn't. We went thru all the statements from Anthem and the bills from Apria--we now have a good idea what we are owed. Guess what, the rep that said we were owed $800 was right! Will we ever see the monies owed, yes! We will keep on calling, on a daily basis if need be, until we get what is owed. The next step is a letter to the Attorney General and the Insurance Board. Anthem is holding our money. If we owed Anthem money, we'd be in collections by now. In addition, we just received a letter raising premiums 20% and cutting benefits 20% for 2017. We have Anthem Silver Pathway PPO individual insurance as we are both self-employed and not old enough for Medicare.
