  • There is a lot to lake about Whitehouse Salon. It is a clean, friendly and chic atmosphere. There's a bit of confusion as to what door is the entrance, and they seem utterly confused and not set up for people taking the stairs up instead of the elevator. Some signage in the stairwells would help. I went to two stylists here - Sharon and LaVerne. Both seemed quite competent, but my frustrations primarily come with timeliness of this place. I think I came here 3 or 4 times. None of the times did my appointment start within 15 minutes of when it was supposed to. With Sharon, I was always double-booked while she was doing a coloring of another client's hair, so I usually ended up with an assistant washing my hair, waiting, and then getting my hair cut while the other client was waiting for color to set, and they continued their conversation. It is kind of awkward, and feels like you're not getting 100% attention from the stylist. Sharon is extremely meticulous in her work, making sure there is not a stray hair out of place, following the grain of my hair, and taking great care to make everything even. If I were getting married or going to appear on TV, I'd probably want this level of care. But, when it's a random Tuesday and I'm trying to meet up for dinner with friends, or make it back to work without spending 2 hours at the salon - it is a bit overkill. One time when I was in dire need of a cut, and Sharon wasn't available, I went to LaVerne. LaVerne did a good job, but my cut didn't quite turn out how I wanted - and was quite a bit shorter than I was going for. I'd try going to her again, though. I'm not completely against this place because there's a lot to like, but I'm not totally in love with it, either, as I've had better. It is above average for Pittsburgh, and if I'd definitely recommend it over some other places for somebody looking for a cut. I'd like to check out their nail services, too.
