| - So, this place is awesome. despite my high expectations from the rave reviews, they were still exceeded by this place. dont let the weird location or the minimalist interior fool you, what this place emphasizes is quality - from the ingredients to the presentation, its all superb. even with the quality ingredients, prices are similar to other vietnamese restaurants, maybe $1-2 more on certain dishes. this immediately vaulted to my favorite viet restaurant ever, i highly recommend it for any fan of the cuisine.
App
-Bo Tai Chanh - "beef tartar/carpaccio" as described by the chef. marinated in a sweet citrus marinade, it was phenomenal.
Entree
-House Special Bun - bun is a staple of any viet restaurant. had to try it. simply put, its really good bun. fresh, high quality veggies, shrimp, meats epitomizes the refreshing nature the dish should have. Instead of Nuoc Cham sauce they have a house Nuoc Mam sauce, which is sans chili peppers and is a little sweeter. still very delicous
-Pan fried Rice Noodles - special of the day. very good, not at all oily, served with a good helping of sauteed veggies. not too much to say, was delicious and i have lots of leftovers.
BONUS!!
-pho sample - if you like speaking to owners/chefs, definitely go at an off time because he likes to come out and talk. my table was the only one there and he chatted us up quite a bit. he guided us through the beef tartar, talked a little bit about banh mi, and then he INSISTED that we try the pho and brought out small bowls. it was great pho-nomenal; he explained how he uses various aromatics, not just star anise, to make the broth. cool conversation, and i am definitely getting the pho next time.
