| - Before I wrote this review, I read through all the other reviews first. It's interesting how many bad reviews there are and how they all say the same thing I'm going to say (I formed my opinion of this place before reading any reviews). I recently started working near Mt. Washington and noticed Grand Brew one day when on Shiloh Street for lunch. "Great," I thought, "I'll come up here on my lunch break one day soon, grab a coffee and a snack, and check it out." Today was the day I finally decided to check out Grand Brew and I was hugely disappointed. I went in and no one was in there. The shop was completely empty although open for business. This isn't unusual in small businesses. I assumed the person working there was just in back momentarily. Well, one moment turned into one minute which eventually turned into 10 minutes. I was actually worried, thinking that perhaps the person working there had taken ill or worse. I looked behind the counter - nothing. I called out "Hello" several times - nothing. I knocked on the office door - nothing. After about 10 minutes, the woman from the ice cream places two doors down (I gather both business are owned by the same people) poked her head in the front door. "Is he not here?," she asked. "He probably went to the bank. He'll be back soon." Eventually, "he" came through the front door with a surly attitude and made my latte. It actually wasn't terrible, nor was the pineapple pastry I also had. But the service was the worst. And "he" had a gun on his hip. I wanted to say sarcastically, "Guns are a sure fire way to win over customers" but I was afraid Mr. Surlypants would shoot me. The entire experience was the worst and I'm very disappointed. I won't be back. The only reason I gave this place two stars instead of one was because the pastry was yummy. But not yummy enough for me to ever go back. There are a million other places to get coffee and a pastry. Go somewhere else!
