I used to go to this church when I believed in God many years ago. My criticisms at the time were the fact that people spend so much time in church listening to what the pastor says and not enough time reading their bible. Going to church 3 times a week doesn't afford people the time to read on their own. Also everybody here dresses a certain way. If you want to fit in you have to also dress that way. It could potentially be alienating to anybody visiting the first time. Everybody here has known each other for a long time. You will likely find kind people here, but every church has them. As far as beliefs go they teach that there is only one true way to heaven and that they know the way and that it is through baptism in Jesus name. That belief promoted a cult-like atmosphere where baptism was an initiation ritual into heaven and to leave the church was equivalent to leaving God. They also believe that there is only one God, but how they describe it, is very similar to a belief in the trinity -- the semantics of "Manifestations" of God versus "Persons". When I started going I thought the praise and worship was great but now I realize that people were working themselves up into a frenzy. Overall I wish my friend had not invited me to this church. I went back and listened to some of the audio tapes I purchased of certain sermons and they don't even make sense anymore. For many years after leaving here I continued to hold certain incorrect beliefs as absolutely true. Now I think it is best to just live your life and don't believe everything you hear.
