| - Does every dollar you spend in Vegas hurt your heart? Do you long for the familiar comfort of a bar where business casual is overdressed and you don't have to wait in line to get inside? Do you miss gross bathrooms and sticky floors? If so, this is the bar for you.
On my first trip to Las Vegas I was broke but went anyway. Every $5 water and $20 drink was another nail in the coffin. We asked a staff member where she drank-- surely locals can't afford The Strip-- and after hesitating to recommend it, she said "after work we go to the Double Down, but take a cab there, it's kind of sketchy." We were down for anything with cheaper drinks.
A few people playing pool, a small crowd in the corner, no judgment on our fancy outfits and plenty of seats without more than a cursory ID glance at the door. Awesome. A round of drinks for 5 people was ~$20. PERFECT. They called us a cab when we asked if we should flag one on the street, and the driver even came inside to pick us up.
Less perfect were the bathroom doors that don't lock, but we just buddied up to have one guard the door after the first accidental walk-in. This place was really the light in a gloomy LV business experience, so on my second Vegas trip this past weekend I was excited to show my friends a local spot where we could get cheap drinks.
This visit was slightly less successful, but still good. Not much has changed in almost-5 years, but this time there was some live music playing that was too loud for us to talk over, so we only stayed one round. I tried, and do not recommend, the bacon martini. I thought it would be a funny novelty but the best part of the whole thing was the slim jim garnish (1. what? 2. I needed a snack). Normally I finish a drink even when I don't like it, but I had to abandon this one. If you _love_ bacon, maybe you'll like it.
So I'd say - this place is great when it's not so loud you can't talk. Worth a visit even just for one round though, especially if you've been hankering for some down-to-earth pricing and ambiance. I also noticed it's really close to Roberto's, a tasty/cheap taqueria.
