| - I brought my well-loved clean black on black 650i to Frank's European Service. This guy Thomas, a salesman, attempted to get me to trust this company. Thomas told me the owner Frank is God-fearing and Frank's service principles are ourstanding. There are even plaques of a mission statement and of his values towards understanding and appreciating the concerns of his customers. So why not trust this place, I asked myself. But little did I know.
The service ticket cost to diagnose my car as to why the windows and convertible top stop working was $180. That was not too bad but hey, this is a trustworthy upscale classy place (so I thought).
I did mention clearly that I needed my car back within the week because of an out of state business trip that I had. I would be out of Las Vegas for at least 6 weeks. Thomas asked for the key, came outside, and then back into the store and said that I need a battery that can cost upwards of $500. Then while writing the ticket he says he wants to confirm something, and then returned stating he forgot to press the break while attempting to start the car and that the battery is not bad. Mind you, Thomas is a salesman, not a mechanic.
Thomas told me it is possible it would take 4 days before my 650i is next in line to get diagnosed. He started telling me the problems his company has such as being swamped with cars to repair. I asked him to at least put my car inside before it rains; for the windows are down and it is about to rain. The owner's wife came briskly walking inside saying it's about to rain. I gestured at Thomas, see it is not just me seeing it's about to rain. He acted as though I was asking for the world, and stated to me he does not have the room (although I noticed a Benz parked inside the service area that was not in a stall). I decided to find the owner- Frank. Things only got worse. He promised that he would pull the car inside if it started raining and put it outside if it stops, considering the car is not being worked on. I accepted that, although the way he said it was a bit condescending.
My wife then drove up to pick me up, and we talked in her car about my situation with the 6 series. I then went back inside to get a bit of reassurance that the car will be looked at in the morning. Upon doing so, Frank the owner asked why is she (my wife) upset. I did not want to tell him that she said this place seems like they have a problem with me being a black guy expecting equal customer treatment, despite the fact my car looks just as good if not better than the rest at this shop. I did not tell him that she wanted me to take my car elsewhere. Rather, I just said to him that she had a long day at work. As I said this I noticed the manager, Frank's wife, staring at me with her mouth open as if I was disrupting their establishment or as if to see whether I would rebel to the bullshit treatment they seemed unaware they were doing.
I left the car, anyway, came home and watched a YouTube clip of how to fix my window/convertible top problem. I called Thomas the next morning and told him what I saw on YouTube and asked him to not touch the car. He agreed. Within a few hours I get a voice message from Thomas that I need to come pick up my car within 30 minutes or he is going to have it parked in the rain. OMG!!! I texted him that I am at work but that I will be there soon.
When I got there my car was not outside. I went in asking for Thomas. Franks' wife came out to have me sign papers. Then came the mechanic, who stated he tried the thing I mentioned to Thomas about what I saw on YouTube and it did not work. (I never asked this place to apply the YouTube suggestion.) The mechanic said the car has sensors all along the convertible top, and probably one of them is bad. I asked him could he fix the problem. He said yes and that he would take a look at it tomorrow since I have to leave for out of state by the end of the week. I said okay, I will leave the car. Just then Frank appeared and told the mechanic, in front of me, that he cannot work on my 650i tomorrow because he has other cars a head of mine. Frank turned to me and said that he had my car here but that I refused them to do a diagnostic. I said I wanted to try to save myself money, that's all. He said that I obviously have a trust problem. I said that I trust your mechanic (Patrick), which is why I just told him I will leave him my car. Frank said no, you do not trust his well-trained mechanics. (I was then certain this guy has serious personality issues.) I told Frank that he is again assuming, and I asked him to recognize such. His wife touched his hand and he walked away into the back office. I drove home.
The YouTube option worked for me!!! I was relieved. I never experienced the mission statement nor biblical values that Frank's European Service displays on its walls. Thank God Frank refused my vehicle before his staff charged me hundreds of dollars for unnecessary parts and unnecessary labor.
