I have a fish tank that is 8 months and had some problems with the ammonia level. Over the last 2-3 months, I've gone into the store to test the water 3-4 times, which is still not ideal so my son cannot replace the 3-4 fish he lost over the last 8 months. My gripe is that every time we go into the place and ask for advice on bringing down the ammonia levels, we get contradictory advice. One person recommended a $12 powder, which another person told me later was only for saltwater tanks, not freshwater so...I had to buy another powder for $10-$14 in hopes that helps. One person told me to do water changes every week, while another said that was stressing the fish out so only do them once/month. Trying to be patient but it took less time to cycle the tank before adding fish in the first place.
