| - UPDATE: After speaking with the owner, Shayna, I decided to update my review. While I'll still stand by everything written below, I do appreciate the time and consideration Shayna put into speaking with me. She did attempt to rectify the situation by offering a compensation and solutions to better care for my Golden should we again decide to board him at Scottsdale Doggie Suites. From other reviews, it doesn't seem like this is a situation that happens very often, however I'm not sure we will be back.

First off, I'm pretty bummed to even have to write this review. I'm not one to leave Yelp reviews, and I'm disappointed that I feel the need to leave one now.
Today I picked up my 11 month old Golden Retriever after boarding him for 5 days at Scottsdale Doggie Suites. He's very high energy, loves the water and wants to play with every human and animal that he encounters. That being said, I had very realistic expectations of what to expect after picking him up (dirty, smelly, small scratches, small mats, etc.).
Almost immediately after seeing him for the first time, I noticed two 2+ inch long mats stuck to his skin behind both ears. As I mentioned, mats are to be expected, but these were pretty drastic and could have been avoided had he been dried/cleaned properly after play. The manager offered to have their groomer remove the mats, to which I agreed since there was no way the mats could be brushed out.
After taking my dog to the back, the manager asked if I would mind coming with her because my dog was a bit nervous. I then saw the groomer bring out an electric razor to remove the mats behind both ears. It very well could have been that the mats were too bad to be removed with shears, but I would have much rather preferred them cut off than shaved off. The groomer removed the mats and left two uneven, patchy bald spots behind both ears. For those who have Goldens, you know how fine and curly the fur behind their ears can be and how noticeable it is now that all his fur is gone. To top it off, my dog (obviously shaken) made a sudden movement and the groomer cut his face with the razor. I would have thought that since both the manager and groomer knew my dog was nervous, they would have taken the necessary precautions to avoid such an accident. My dog will barely let me touch the cut on his face to put on medication.
It was pretty obvious that I was upset, yet no reimbursement or compensation was offered. Needless to say, I wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. Again, I hate to even leave this review but I thought I should share so it doesn't happen in the future.
