I lived in this complex for two years. They charge you for utilities that should not be included in your rent (trash, water etc) Every 6 months or 12 months when you renew your lease guess what??? Your rent increases! They DO NOT return your deposit $$ when you move out regardless of what do or say. They told me that the utilities they charge for were 2 months behind. Once the utilities that were "behind" would be paid off, they would send me what was "left" from my deposit. All of this makes no sense because I paid my rent on time & they NEVER state that when you sign the lease. Of course... it's a lie & if you call corporate; they tell you the same thing! They "fumigate" every week but the roaches always return, they do not offer to clean the carpet in your apartment & the police are always there. The walls are paper thin, there are kids playing outside too often & the staff is not nice or professional. Don't be fooled by the model apartment they show you or convinced that you'll "have everything you need" with the services they offer/washer.
Update: Since Rene (from Portola del Sol) commented on my post & welcomes me to call to inquire about my deposit, I did. She told me that utilities were 1 month behind (I originally told 2) & that I should of solved the issue instead of posting about it. "Obviously you didn't like what you were told." Who would be when their deposit isn't returned especially when there were no damages to the apt/property. Rene said "you only gave a $200 deposit" & she also stated that my deposit went towards that "month" of utilities. $200 worth of utilities for a small 2 bedroom apt? I don't think so! She said the person in charge of that was on vacation & that she would be calling me back. However, I know I won't be getting anything back because my deposit went "towards that month of utilities" or they'll say that there was something wrong when I vacated the apt.
I should of done what I did with the previous apt I rented... take pictures before I moved out. When I moved out I was billed $300 because they had to "replace the carpet." I spoke to the manager & as soon as I told her that I took pictures before I moved out, she told me it's ok I'll take care of it. BTW... that property also has a negative review due to that issue I had with them.
