| - Like lots of folks in Charlotte, my wife and I spent a weekend here last year for an easy "get away" without travel. The hotel itself is, like any other Ritz, very comfortable and well appointed - highlights are the gym (which has amazing views and is not to be missed) and the bar. The attached restaurant, BLT, is overpriced for the quality of food (good but not the best steak) - you'd be better off walking a block to Morton's or Capital Grill if you wanted a steak dinner. Service, except for the issue below, is very good. But, then again, for $450 a night, all the positives should basically be a given, and this Ritz, while very good, was not better than (for instance) the Four Seasons in Atlanta.
The main feedback, particularly if you're considering this place for a fun weekend trip, is that if your room is on the side facing Epicentre on a Friday or Saturday night, you will not sleep. Noise from the clubs will keep you awake until it closes. If you're looking for a rare night of sleep away from your kids, do not plan on getting it if you happen to be on that side of the hotel.
This noise problem is so significant that when we considered returning for a get away this summer, we requested a room that was not on the Epicentre side. Ritz told us that they could not guarantee that, so we passed on this hotel and opted for another in town. We were surprised that Ritz was so unhelpful with this problem, and can only guess that this was because they have had so many complaints about the Epicentre side noise issue that they cannot accommodate everyone who does not want to be on that side. Were it not for this issue, this would be a three to four star rating (if you compare this hotel to a Marriott or a Westin without reference to price or the noise, it's five stars).
