  • My weird personal hair background: I have a problem with getting my hair cut. I just do not like to do it. For a person with long hair most stylists see those locks and get cut happy. I can not tell you how many times I have said, "just a trim" and left with several inches off my hair. I am not a fan of that so I go to the stylist every year or two. I do not use product or style my hair often so the ends stay relatively free from split ends. I really would like a stylist that I could go to every 6 months or so to give me a little trim. I just have not found that right place or person. So that is my baggage that I brought to the appointment. I went in and was greeted right away. The lady at the front desk offered to take my coat and to hang it up for me. I thought that was really nice. But I didn't really know what to do with my purse. Not that I think it would have been stolen but the coat rack was by the door and I didn't feel comfortable so I took it with me to the chair. My stylist was named Colton and he was very friendly when he came out to greet me. I gave him my, "please don't try to cut my hair short" spiel and he assured me he would just do what I wanted and he does not get "cut happy". I felt a lot better by this. Before I booked my appointment I checked out their list of services on their webpage. The women's cut is listed as... Women Hair Cut ............................................................40-50 Includes shampoo and styling Not bad at all. I thought that was pretty reasonable for a shampoo, styling, and a cut. When I got there though Colton went right into the hair cut. I had to ask for the shampoo. I am a big fan of the shampoo at the hair cut. It is always so warm and the shampoo is fancy and I love getting my hair really scrubbed. I do not know if I would have been charged the same amount if I went with the no shampoo but that is something to watch for. I was told that cutting dry hair is better because hair elongates when it is wet so when it dries it looks shorter than it naturally would. I was ok with the blow drying after the shampoo.....and really when my hair is all kinked up and not all straight I do not believe that is beneficial to a hair cut. That was the only issue I had with the entire process. So throughout the cut I was walked through each of the steps. I got a trim. I got some layers. And the entire time he kept on assuring me that not much was coming off. I loved it! I looked around my feet and instead of seeing hunks of hair on the floor there was only small little strands. He kept his promise and I kept my sanity! I will say the styling part of the entire experience was really my favorite part. Colton went through step by step on how to style my hair the same way at home. That was great! I never really know how to recapture that day of style and he really made it easy for me to try at home. He was patient and answered all of my (probably dumb to him) questions without laughing at me once. I loved the experience and how my hair looked after. Isle of You also has a great referral program. If anyone goes there say that I sent you! I believe that will give you $10 off your haircut! From their website: At the end of your visit to Isle of You Hair Color Studio, you will receive referral cards to give to your friends and family. Each card is good for a $10 discount on your friends' first visit to Isle of You. AND, each person you send in earns YOU a $10 bonus! You can send as many as you like, and combine your referral bonuses to cover the cost of your next salon service! Send enough new folks our way and you could pay for your whole visit with referral bonuses! The $10 referral card can be used for any service valued at $15 or more, and that includes makeup, pedicures, teeth whitening, blow-outs, or any other service in the salon. Pretty good perk! I liked my experience and will be looking forward to my next one!
