  • I lived here for 24 months after selling my home (2012-2014). I was in an ~2800 sq ft penthouse (unit #530). The apt size was wonderful after selling a large home and needing time and space to downsize. My unit had enormous closets and great natural light. Unlike some of the other posted reviews, I found Jody Rimmer (general manager) to be professional, responsive and helpful when issues arose. Also, Renata R was fantastic and anytime I needed to reserve a room or had a question she went above and beyond. Chris and Jose (maintenance) were great and any repair request was handled quickly - usually same day. Plus they were "good people" and I was never uncomfortable with them in my unit if I wasn't there. Concierge was great to have, and my packages/deliveries were always announced (they email you) - and no issues. Nice concierge team. There were some negatives. My bedroom wall was less than 10 feet from the billiards area and excessive noise was an issue, especially when trying to sleep. Not a daily issue - but at least 3-4 times a month. I never experienced an issue with "neighbor noise" however dogs barking loudly were not uncommon on every floor. (but again, the times it happened to me, Jody addressed it promptly). Another negative issue is this complex allows smoking. The apartment windows don't open (for safety) - and my entire 2800 sq ft unit had one balcony door as the sole source of fresh air. Sadly, the person below me (her door was ~10' from my door) was constantly smoking and the second hand smoke wafting up into my unit was very frequent/daily. On top of this, she would leave smoldering ashtrays in her balcony doorway that would waft up. Jody tried to address the issue - but there wasn't alot he could do. The biggest issue was the construction noise from 2/2013-6/2013 when Chuys was being constructed. UDR as a company did a VERY poor job finding options for units affected, nor did they indemnify for loss of use in a number of units where there was construction grade noise 6-8 hours a day (drilling, pounding). It was impossible to work or sleep during this construction if you were located above it (I was). Also fire alarms went off at least 10 times while living there (usually middle of the night - usually related to this construction). Overall - I would recommend the Residence. There are some issues as you'd expect with 150+ units, but management attempts to address them. The neighbors I met were largely professional and nice. The complex is very fluid - people are always moving in and out. It is a great place if you need a temporary apartment in between moves, or during a relocation. I am writing this review as a co-worker is moving to Charlotte and asked me about the Residence for his family as interim housing. He was concerned about some of the reviews on this website and Yelp. My experience was much more positive than negative.
