| - DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONES GO TO DESERT MEMORIAL CREMATION & BURIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The WORST PLACE IN TOWN!!!!If I could pick 0 stars I would! (this was my 2nd encounter with them since 2012- I gave them the benefit of the doubt this time, WORST decision I ever made!) Our beloved passed away very young and unexpectedly on Father's Day 6/19/16. Our family met with Desert Cremation on 6/22/16 to get the cremation procedure started so our loved one could rest as soon as possible. We were told it would take around 3 weeks to receive his ashes.
7/11/16 (2 1/2 weeks) We called just to check if he was ready and were told "NO, call back next Monday".
7/18/16 (3 1/2 weeks) We called again "NO, call back next Monday". 7/25/16 (4 1/2 weeks)- AGAIN! we were told "NO, maybe this Friday and there was a delay because the coroner didn't release the body until 7/20/16".
Not feeling comfortable with what was said, I called the Coroner's office as soon as they opened the next morning 7/27/16 (5 weeks) to find out what happened. I was told Desert Cremation didn't even send the paperwork to the Coroner until 7/19/16 and I would need to contact Desert to find out why. I called Desert Cremation @ 11:45 am, spoke with the Director Kristin, asked her what was going on with our loved one... she informed me he was cremated this morning and even agreed that the process took too long. She said she would find out what happened and either herself or the manager would call me back directly. I did not want the children to know what has happened to their father. Instead of calling me back, they called my nephew @ 2:30pm to inform him the ashes were ready to be picked up. Not knowing there was a problem with his dad's handling, he went to obtain his ashes. When he arrived, Chris, the manager, told him the delay was caused by his staff member JESSICA who handles the death certificates. She made a "type error" causing a halt in his cremation process! This really threw my nephew's emotions for a loop. Chris was informed he needed to call me back with the info as I was the one who originally called. Chris gave him his personal cell # and said for me to call him. My nephew just left and informed the rest of the family what happened.
I called Chris, he told me the same thing regarding the error that JESSICA had made. I asked if it was even possible to cremate someone and be able to pick them up on the same day? Morbidly/insensitively, he answered "Yes, we start our cremations @ 6am because it's too hot in the afternoon to run the ovens." Seriously? No class at all! I asked if they would be calling us when the death certificates arrive. He said they only order them in certain situations and he would have to check the paperwork as he was already driving at the time and he would call me back in the AM.
Throughout the night, our family couldn't rest with the way this was handled, so I went to the office @ 9am when it opened to meet with Chris myself on behalf of the family. After waiting for 25 minutes for him to arrive, he asked what else he could do for me since we had already spoke on the phone. I told him a simple "I'm sorry" wasn't good enough. I explained how our family scrambled to put put the cash together so we could handle this as quickly as possible. I asked when should the paperwork of been sent to the Coroner, he said within 3 days (6/25/16) IT WASN'T SENT UNTIL 7/19/16!!!!!!!!!! our loved one sat in their refrigerator for 1 MONTH due to a typing error made by an irresponsible employee named Jessica! Chris told us it was a "simple" mistake, SIMPLE???!!! In this line of business their should be no mistakes! Thank goodness she isn't a doctor! Desert wouldn't be able to keep up with all the business she would be sending!!!
This was a HUGE blow to our family! How can a company in this line of business be so apathetic, irresponsible and rude?! No respect for the deceased or loved ones left behind!!! One thing for sure, a new staff, starting with management, should be the first item on the list if this company plans to change for the better!
