This place is our go-to Charlotte restaurants. With their recipes clean and simple, highlighting the quality of their ingredients and culinary skills.
BRUNCH:
Brunch here is our favorite yet, in a city known for numerous delicious brunch spots.
Their chicken confit and waffles takes it to a new level. Who needs battered and fried chicken when you have such savory delicious tenderness in this chicken confit? To the bone. Yes. I will gnaw down to the bone. You won't miss the fry batter!
Duck hash with duck confit and duck egg. Hoo boy! Here's another fave! Beautifully balances with flavor galore. But again, surprisingly simple in spice and not overwhelming. Block and Grinder's portions are made for quality, not quantity, but filling nonetheless.
Steak and eggs is the best I've had yet in Charlotte. With a marinade that does NOT distract from the quality of meat. Most places I've come across has marinaded their meat so strongly, that you don't appreciate the steak.
Biscuits and gravy. Well. I must say, don't expect a weak milk gravy at Block and Grinder. This one is made with their in-house breakfast sausage. Which is why I HAD to try it. I thought it was delicious. Heavy and hearty for sure! As any gravy should be. But many places rely on cheaply made gravy, focusing mostly on milk and flour, leaving nothing for the tastebuds to enjoy. This gravy, however, is certainly a meal in itself that leaves you more than satisfied. It's pricier than most nix biscuit and gravy entrees I've seen elsewhere, but you can also see why! Toasty biscuits and homemade sausage for the win!
LUNCH/DINNER:
If you're gonna spend on a rib-eye, have it done right at block and grinder. They know their meats well enough to know how to make them right. The perfect char on the edges, cooked to your heart's perfection.
Mac & Cheese - this might be the best Mac & Cheese I've ever had. Anywhere. Ever. I felt that way about it last year. I still feel that way about it this year. The texture. The flavors. Everything.
Well, now I'm hungry. Even though I'm still full from breakfast there. All I can think of now, is having dinner there.
