| - I hate that I even have to write this review, but yesterday I had the worst experience there! I have been taking my two young boys for over a year and a half to this shop. I have a 9 year old boy and a 5 year old boy. My 5 year old has straight hair and my 9 year old has tight curly hair. I found two great barbers that my boys felt comfortable with and that did a great job on their hair. And for over a year I paid $15 for each kid. The place is clean, and the barbers are friendly. It's a "man's shop" but definitely family fitting for all ages. Except for their new outrageous prices!
I've never paid more than $15 for my boys' haircuts in their lives. Before we found Cuts & Shaves we were regulars at another local barber shop that did amazing clean cuts on my boys, but the shop was a little too rough around the edges for my young boys, so when I found out about Cuts & Shaves I was so excited! I know at least 15 other families that go there for their kids. All families I know have always paid $15 for their kids, some of which come out with crazy designs and cool styles.
Well about two months they randomly charged me $20 for my youngest boys cut. I was caught off guard, spoke to his barber and he said not to worry, that going forward he would keep him at the $15. So last month when we went in my youngest boy's hair cut cost $15 however my oldest boy's cost me $20. It made no sense. They can't even get the price straight. The owner said that it was a misunderstanding. That my oldest boy's hair should be $15, but because my youngest boy had straight hair that falls to one side it is considered a comb over and that going forward it would cost me $20 for his cut since he is a kid. $20 each is a little steep especially for boys that need their hair cut at least every 3 weeks, but I was willing to pay it because I liked the place and my boys liked their barbers.
So yesterday I came prepared. I booked both boys online for Kids Cuts at $15 as I've done now for over a year and a half, but I was prepared to pay $20 for each just in case. Well you can imagine my surprise when they charged me $30 for my 5 year old! $30 FOR A 5 YEAR OLD'S HAIR CUT?!?!?!? That is a 100% increase and a complete rip off! What pissed me off even more was how demeaning the manager spoke with me. The cashier kept trying to chime in and apologize for the misunderstanding, but the manager kept nudging him with his elbow telling me he got this (literally) as if he needed to put me in my place. I kept my cool, paid the outrageous $50 for both boys, and left shaking.
Now here's the deal. Normally I go on their website and just go to BOOK NOW. There is where you can book your $15 kids cut with the barber you choose. I never really paid much attention to their website because I never had any issues with the price. Once again, for over a year and a half, every 2 - 3 weeks I paid $15 each kid. So YES, on their website it says Kids Cuts are $15 (clipper only). WTF? Clipper Only? So you pay $15 if they don't need to use scissors. What child doesn't need scissors taken to at least the top of their head? That is what a haircut is. A shaved head is clippers only, but I don't know many kids walking around with shaved heads.
I spoke with three other friends yesterday who all said that they were charged $20 because their boys hair fell to one side and was considered a comb over. They didn't like having to pay $20, but they definitely aren't going to pay $30! So like me, they won't be going there with these new prices.
These are kids. How can you charge $30 for a 5 year old? You are definitely going to loose A LOT of customers with these outrageous price increases. It's definitely a shame because this shop was known around the soccer community, my son's school mates all go there, kids from his swim team, my friends and family members all took their kids there. But that is only because they charged $15 at one time for all kids. Period. It's disappointing. We definitely won't be going there anymore, as I'm sure a lot of other families won't either.
Warning, if your kid has straight hair, and it falls to one side beware! That cut is called a "comb over" and it cost $30!!! Such a joke!!! And if you need to cut a single curl on the top of your kid's head, watch out because once the scissors come out that price just increased by $5 to a $20 cut! Seriously, such a joke! This place is a RIP OFF!
My boys are sad to leave their barbers, but there is no way I am paying those prices. When I told my husband about the price increase and the experience I had he lost his mind! He was livid! $30 FOR A 5 YEAR OLD!!! He called and spoke to the manager who too tried to talk down to my husband just like he did to me, but I'm pretty sure my husband was able to turn that conversation around. It's preposterous! Such a horrible way to do business.
