| - Visiting Heartwood Coffee on their grand opening night was exciting and they delivered. When I think of Heartwood, several things come to mind. The staff are outgoing, friendly, and good natured people who have put their heart and soul into making Heartwood great in order to serve the community and provide for their families. When I walked up to the counter to place my order Jim, one of the owners, called me by name and thanked me for a recommendation I gave him through Instagram. Before my first visit I had only known Jim through Instagram as we follow each other's account. Thirdwave coffee comes to my mind as well (https://www.perfectdailygrind.com/2017/04/third-wave-coffee-different-specialty/). As such, I know that I'm going to get a stellar cup of coffee when I visit.
I ordered my favorite espresso drink: a cortado. The espresso had a chocolaty, maybe a somewhat nutty and typical espresso taste, especially in the after taste, accented beautifully by a bright citric flavor and sensation that made me think of oranges and lemons. The brightness and chocolate/"espresso" taste were well balanced, complemented each other well, and made it a perfect summer cortado.
Before I left I picked up a bag of their coffee from Tanzania. Each coffee comes with it's own profile card, which is rad. If you wonder what it all mean, ask! I'm sure the baristas will be glad to explain what elevation etc has to do with the profile of a coffee. I haven't brewed up a cup of coffee from this bag, but I know it's going to be good.
The inside is beautiful! High ceilings, lots of natural light, rustic feel and look, and comfortable seating inside and out. On those warm, sunny days typical of NE Ohio ;) you can take your cold brew outside and enjoy it under the shade of the umbrella or in the open sun.
Being part of the Shops at the Evaporator Works, there is plenty of parking and establishments to eat or shop at before or after you take your coffee break.
I look forward to many great experiences with friends and family at Heartwood Coffee Roasters in the future. I just wish they were closer to Akron :)
Cheers!!
