| - Went here on thursday to show out of towners what a real cheese curd is.
Food wise, obviously not disappointed. One of the best in Madison!!
However.
The out of towners are older, and the matron of the group has bad knees and hips. We were obviously dropped off while the "boys" parked the car. We go in the restaurant and I remember that they typically don't seat unless the whole party has arrived, but at 5pm on thursday their restaurant was empty with over 2/3 of their tables up front empty.
The hostess asked us how many, and told us business policy wouldn't seat us until the whole party arrives. To which I responded, so you're whole restaurant is empty and you can't giver her a seat?
She responded no.
I took the seat from the table next to the greeters station and told my party member to sit down and rest. The chair was pulled out from the table and flipped "backwards." The hostess said nothing.
She told us there was two barstools at the bar, and my guest told her she can't physically sit in a barstool... IE requiring medical accommodation.
We asked to speak to a manager who came out at once.
I explained and he responded three times that it was company policy to not seat, but then had the audacity to say that it "looks like someone was able to take care of us" and indicated the chair she was using. I snapped back that that chair was NOT from an employee, I pulled it out for her on my own.
He "made an exception" for us, and seated us in the right corner booth of their front room ( there were three tables all by the window being used). He had to wipe the table off to seat us, and proceeded to explain twice more that this isn't company policy.
We would have left if we weren't waiting for our group.
We had planned on 4 adults sharing at least two appetizers, ordering most likely double rounds of drinks, and 4 entrees.
Instead, we ordered the cheese curds, and the home chips and drank water.
We left, and I doubt we'll be back.
I have gone there on packed friday nights, so I recognize the policy being needed. However the example they gave us of people sitting and hogging tables for an hour before ordering is unacceptable.
We had someone who needed so accommodation, which was no where close to unreasonable.
As a Madison native, who's been there ton's I was really disappointed.
The Old Fashioned is a Wisconsin gem... but so much for Wisconsin nice.
