I needed a type of workout to keep me motivated and showing up. Orange Theory does that for me! While it isn't personal training, it is much more affordable and a more competitive workout. They at least let you try out a class for free before signing a contract, as it is more expensive than the average gym membership.
You sign up for classes in advance and there is a cancellation fee so you actually show up on the days you may want to be lazy and ditch out. The workouts are tough, but what is nice is that the trainers do not assume everyone is on the same level. The workouts are based on heart rate zones. Someone's Orange Zone could be a speed walk, and another person it could be a fast jog. It's okay that someone is walking and another person is running as long as the individual's heart rate is in the correct zone.
What also keeps me motivated is seeing everyone else's heart rate and calories burned on the big screen. As a former athlete, I have a tendency to need to win. This is what makes this type of training better for me than one on one personal training. Towards the end I may feel like slacking off, but someone may be right behind me or I may need to catch up to someone else. I always get the most of each workout because of this.
The location has been great so far. The employees are nice. The trainers are motivating and will take time to help you with various weight training. What's great is I have an injury that prevents me from doing certain types of weight training movements. I just let the trainer know and they are able to think of something else to work the same muscle group right then and there. The location is also very clean every time I have gone, even after a large class. Equipment is wiped down after each class. Classes sometimes are full, and sometimes not. I haven't had an issue booking a time I needed or finding the equipment I need during a class. I have yet to see the New Year's Resolution rush, so hopefully this doesn't change and the place doesn't get too overloaded.
