  • I came to this office for my 2nd pregnancy after using an OB for my 1st pregnancy and having a terrible birth experience. The feel of this office is like an OBs office, but with a more natural setting. I was very happy that during my pregnancy I was able to meet both midwives and the OB, so that I would recognize the face that would end up being at my birth. Amanda Simon was my primary midwife through my pregnancy, and I loved her. I was thankful she was also the care provider who ended up attending my birth, and she was wonderful. She helped me attain the natural, medication free birth that I wanted. Some things to know about this office if you're wanting a natural pregnancy and birth: -They do all the same testing and treatments that a standard OBs office would. To test for gestational diabetes they use a glucose drink that does not have artificial coloring, but still contains some terrible preservatives. When I arrived for my glucose test, I brought organic jelly beans and organic grape juice hoping they would let me use those instead, but was told that I could not do that. I may have had better luck if I had talked to my midwife prior to my appointment for testing, but I cannot say whether they will let you. In my 1st trimester they discovered I had a slight urinary tract infection and prescribed me antibiotics, but instead I cured it at home with natural remedies. They test for Groub B Strep, and if positive they treat it with antibiotics, not natural remedies. -During labor I wasn't able to opt out of getting an IV put in, so when I arrived to the hospital during transition one of the nurses still tried to put an IV in my hand while I was contracting even though I asked not to have one in. They told me it was for "just incase" reasons. -My labor happened very quickly, and was not able to give them my birth plan, but they still told me to reach down and grab my baby when his shoulders were born. I was able to put him skin to skin immediately, and they waited until the cord was empty before they cut it. All this without me having to ask, which was so great. I was able to hold my son until he had latched a few times and we had done a lot of skin to skin before they did weight and measurements. The infant nurse even asked me if I wanted eye ointment or vitamin k before doing anything. The only real problem that I had with this office is that half way through my pregnancy they got a new receptionist and she was not very friendly and caused a few problems for me. She messed up scheduling for my glucose test, so I had to come back to the office later in the day, and I don't live close to the office. Also when I called to schedule my 6 week checkup, without even checking she told me that they didn't have any appointments available around my 6 week date so if I came in later I would be charge extra, and that I didn't need a 6 week checkup if I wasn't having any problems. I hung up the phone pretty upset, and called back later in the day because I didn't feel right about that. A different lady answered the phone and was able to find me an appointment right away. So overall this is a great office to choose if you're looking for the benefits of both a natural birth and OB care. If you're looking for a completely natural pregnancy and birth, with the option of trying natural remedies for illnesses, and the option of using other sugar sources for the glucose testing, then I recommend finding a birth center or midwife who will help you with a home birth. The only reason I gave a 3 star review is because of the receptionist. She is ultimately the face of the office, and who you have to deal with before you can get care, and I had a very horrible experience with her.
