  • So, Conn's makes a lot of promises to help people start over and get credit. Yes. I got credit. I just came out of a bad divorce situation and wanted to rebuild. I bought a computer. That's the end of what was promised as being accurate. I was promised that if I paid the amount of my contract off within a year with a minimum monthly payment that I would owe nothing else. I wasn't told about the monthly payment fees, eating up some of what I paid each month. Then, I was told that when I was ready to pay off the account, I could come into the store and get a paid in full statement - that is not true. You can pay it off in the store, but they give you rinky-dinky credit card statement that doesn't even show your balance. You have to take the clerk's word that it was for the correct amount. They will mail you a statement showing paid in full in 30 - 60 days. Then, they report the closed account, but not the zero balance. This makes your credit score go down, not up. Mine went down 15 points! It makes it look like they closed the account and are about to go into collections. Even though my payoff was about $800, the credit is reporting a balance of more than twice that! They need another 60 days to correct. When I asked for help correcting this from customer service, there was no help. When I then asked to talk to a Supervisor, they hung up on me! Buyer beware. There are better and more accurate ways of rebuilding your credit.
