| - Since loosing both my parents, Christmas has been a sad day for me, since I celebrate Christmas with my husband and his family on Christmas Eve, we are alone on Christmas day. This past Christmas, my husband wanted to cheer me up, so he booked a room at Embassy Suites. We've stayed here plenty of times before, but just not at Christmas time.
First off when my husband called and booked the room he asked if the restaurant was going to be open. The person taking the reservation said yes. When we checked in, we found out their restaurant was actually closed for Christmas. And all restaurants in the area, (even fast food) were closed. We didn't bring any food with us either, he was told that the restaurant would be open, and we are planning on eating there.
Secondly, I was happy that the manager's reception did have some turkey and roast beef wraps to munch on, since I was starving, but the only other thing that they offered was sour cream and onion chips that I do not like. Like I said we have been here plenty of times before, and at the manager's reception there was an assortment of chips, an assortment of different cheeses, Goldfish, and popcorn to munch on. The bartender was fine, but when a group of people the bartender knew came in, we were pretty much non existent after that. We we're even sitting at the bar, but he kept going over to their table and bringing them their drinks and laughing and talking with them. We just gave up, being there.
Thirdly, the room was not very clean. The furniture was stained, old, and extremely UNCOMFORTABLE! When I went to bed, I saw what seemed like 2 bugs, on the covers. Gross! And when I went to to lay down, the sheets were not soft, they felt very gritty. Plus there was hair on them. When I went and brush them off, I felt what seemed like crumbs. Even if they weren't food crumbs, there was some kind of hard gritty stuff on the sheets. I truly believe that they did not change the sheets before our stay. EXTREMELY GROSS!!! I was so grossed out by that fact, that I didn't sleep one wink that entire night, I just stayed up and watched TV. And when we have stayed here before, we have enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and don't check out until noon, but when my husband woke up at 7:30 in the morning, I begged him to leave. We didn't even stay for the complimentary breakfast. I, myself felt dirty and gross because of the dirty condition of the room, even finding used coffee grounds in the coffee maker. Yuk!
Only high points were, the place was quiet, being Christmas there weren't a lot of guests. And the pool and hot tub was all to ourselves, (which was real nice, since there's usually a lot of kids and people in the pool) even though, they put so much damn chlorine in it, that it burned our eyes and made my hair feel like straw.
I understand that the hotel has been around for many years, but if they have money to renovate the front area and atrium, (it looks very plain now, I liked it the way it was before) they have money to put into the outdated rooms. Renovate them with some new carpet, furniture, comforter and bedding, and they may have to pay housekeeping alot more, or hire new housekeeping staff, so that the rooms would be, not just cleaner, but CLEAN!!!
I was extremely disappointed with this stay. This was the first time I stayed at the hotel, with it being this dirty and gross. My husbands parents bought all the kids and their spouse's gift certificates for a night to stay at the hotel as our Christmas present. We tried to see if we would be able to use the gift certificate at the Independence location, unfortunately it can only be used at that location. Just hope that when we use the gift certificate the room won't be so dirty and gross like it was on Christmas Day.
